Well, let's begin with the etymology of the term…
it is a somewhat bawdy expression in the Chinese that refers to the amorous vocalizations of nature's prominent springtime activities.
Using this theme in the artistic sense, a music and arts festival was created to celebrate life in all its diverse
(pro-?) creative expression.
In the 1995 Year of the Pig, the first Spring Scream was born at the southern tip of Taiwan in the beach town of Kenting.
It was for a noble cause in providing a venue and an audience for alternative and original music to be performed in response to the virtually non-existent venues at that time.
It has since been held annually, using the Chinese zodiac to denote each year, during the spring break on the first weekend of April. Same town, with improvements of sites – the festival has arrived at Taiwan's prime spot in Erluanbi National Park at the very southern tip of the island.
A full fifteen years later, the festival continues to grow. In fact, it has grown roughly ten-fold in the number of musical performances, with a film festival, workshops, and dozens of stalls displaying art and festival-oriented goods for sale to boot.
In a word, Spring Scream has been seminal in Taiwan as far as promoting an alternative music and arts culture.
It has been a success in the most meaningful sense.
It has fostered the local and foreign population of musicians and artists in a truly unique and innovative way. It has conceived, cultivated, and become an integral part of, the alternative scene in Taiwan.
Indeed, bands from all over Asia and far beyond migrate annually to the island of Formosa to be fed and offer in return the gifts of their original artistic expression.
1. 「春天吶喊」一直提倡和鼓勵的唯有健康的休閒、音樂和藝術、創意和 環保。活動的主要內容元素為各類音樂、藝術創作、影片影像、創意攤 位及獨立品牌之推廣及展演。
2. 「春天吶喊」及「Spring Scream」已為本公司正式登記之專屬活動註冊商標。
3. 「春天吶喊」音樂藝術祭之唯一主辦單位為”蘿蔔瑞克音樂”，主辦人 為 Jimi 及 Wade ( 吉米和偉德 )。
4. 至 2007 年「春天吶喊」音樂藝術祭已舉辦 15屆，且從未查獲吸毒等任 何不法情事。
5. 本公司今年(2010年)所舉辦之「春天吶喊」活動, 只有在「鵝鑾鼻公園」，活動日期為 4/3~4/5，表演時間亦 如以往 14 年來依循法規只舉辦至晚上 12:00 即全部結束，與墾丁地區 其他營業單位、其他地點的其他任何活動，完全沒有任何關係。
6. 自 2007 年起，內政部營建署也已正式發佈消息，以往在四月春假期間 被誤稱為「春天吶喊」等所有戶外音樂活動，正式核定的名稱為───「墾丁國家公園 ”春天音樂季”戶外音樂活動」。
2007 年起核定的 鵝鑾鼻公園、貓鼻頭公園及滿州佳樂水停車場等 3 處地點提供申請外， 其他地區一律不准有任何未經申請許可的類似活動出現，否則將援例依法強制管制。
